KOMPLEX BREATHES LIFE INTO THE ART OF SPOKEN WORD

WASHINGTON, D.C.- For the past three years, the Haven Lounge located in Baltimore, MD has been a "haven" for the poetically gifted. Every Tuesday night, diverse and excited crowds gather in the cozy confines of the dimly lit venue, feast on a delectable complimentary buffet, and wait in anticipation for the evening's entertainment to begin. The reason? The founder and host of this weekly event described as …Where Langston Hughes Meets Mos Def…He Walks Like a Poet and Talks Like An MC takes the stage to get it started and introduce the first artist. In between sets, spitting knowledge a la spoken word prose and haiku on the mic comes as second nature.

This accomplished artist/poet/host/hip-hop guru with two cd's under his belt- the recently released "Grown Folks Bizness", and his debut project entitled, "Jus Kom" - and known by hundreds of area schools and college campuses across the country is none other than, Mr. Keep On Moving himself, Komplex. In 2007, Kom was voted by a group of his peers and devoted fans as Host of the Year, a coveted award/title issued by the prestigious National Underground Spoken Word and Poetry Awards (NUSPA). He remains the reigning champion. Komplex, a brilliant wordsmith and a seasoned, gracious host is full of personality, charm and wit. Lucky for us, all of those qualities are released in his work.

If he's not spreading his Love, Peace, and Poetry mantra in Baltimore, he can be spotted in the 'artist district' along the U Street corridor in D.C. hosting crowded events and keeping the art of spoken word alive and well.
