Update:
Lupe has reported that he's suing Vibe for defamation of character.
Vibe apparently took a conversation that took place a month or two ago out of context and connected it to the Lupe's slip up in this month's performance at HipHop honors. Lupe suggests Vibe took his words out of context.
It can't be denied that a conversation that took place at least a month and some change back has nothing to do with the performance that took place this month.
Lupe shares that he loves Qtip, and his comments were connected to a conversation about elitism in Hiphop. Apparently Tribe was used as an example in the conversation, but not in the negative light we've been led to believe.
Here's a clip of his interview.

PurpleZoe says:
After listening to his interview I have to say I appreciate that there was no 'situation. It was a sensationalized stunt. I was wrong to jump the gun on it.

Lupe Fiasco is showing his behind, and we're disappointed...
In response to his mangling of the Tribe Called Quest honorary performance of Electric Relaxation, Lupe had this to say:
“[Tribe] didn’t sell 10 million records, so why would people think they had a blanket on the world like that? MC Hammer was way more popular to me than Tribe Called Quest.”
“Because there’s kids in Harlem who right now who would never ever listen to Midnight Marauders, I don’t give a fuck what you do, they’ll never listen to Q-Tip and they want to be rappers and they want to talk about positive things. So why would you shoot them down?”
“It’s like, ‘Oh, you ain’t never listened to Midnight Marauders? You ain’t expanding your horizons? Oh, you ain’t real’ cause they did that shit to me! ‘Oh Lupe, that’s fucked up man, I don’t fuck with you now! I’m not buying your next album’ and be dead serious! It made me feel like, ‘You dirty bastards! Like how dare you hypocritical.”
“Those hip hop elitists who think [Tribe] hold the crown and the copyright to hip hop, I listen to 8Ball & MJG and I think they’re better than you [Tribe].”
PurpleZoe says:
8ball and MJG better than Tribe?
Lupe's trippin...
I used to love him.
Thought he was smarter...classier...
I was wrong.
note:
Beefin for publicity is one thing, but straight disrespecting the (incredibly talented and slick) forerunners of your subgenre is shameful.

I know! What is UP with that? Tribe never bothered anybody...soooo dissapointed in his foolishness
He couldn't have thought this would go over well... so he probably wasn't thinking, and that's even worse.
It could be unconscious envy...most likely that's exactly what it is.
Too bad.
There's plenty of room for conscious emcees. The awareness circuit is supposed to be family, and Lupe wants to bring beef to Conscious Hiphop?
I truly overestimated him.
Sad, but I'll recover.
At least we have Tribe, Common, and Talib...I'm diggin Jay Electronica as well.
Gotta check out this Jay person...I'm a little behind
There's an Indiefied entry about. It will come up if you the his name in the search bar ^_^
Also, there's an update on the Lupe incident, at the top of the blog if you haven't read it.
He's suing Vibe. They misled us.
Leads me to consider the power of names again, because his situation was certainly a fiasco. The power of words is no joke.
