Italian Vogue Believes in Diversity

Italian Vogue is set to sell an all-black July issue, with no concern for those who may disagree or be upset by the decision. Franca Sozzani is frank in her position of displaying the beauty of black women in her magazine and towards how the issue might fare with buyers:

"Because nobody is using black girls. I see so many beautiful girls and they were complaining that they are not used enough."

Ms Sozzani admitted the issue could yet prove to be unpopular among some in Italy, where the xenophobic Northern League is part of the new coalition led by Silvio Berlusconi: "Maybe in our country it is not the best idea. But I don't care. I think it is not my problem if they don't like it – it's their problem."

You've got to love the sane people who stand when a stand is needed. The cover model is set to be 17 year old Brit, Jourdan Dunn (featured above).

I will definitely be acquiring one or more copies of this issue.

Thanks Gina for the intel.

Black Lily Is Coming

Sadly, it doesn't look like I'll be able to make it this year,
but I will be there in spirit with my sister artisans.
The bill is looking pretty impressive with acts like Bahamadia, Ladybug Mecca, Jaguar Wright, and Amanda Diva. It's good to see Bahamadia and Ladybug still doing their thing. They brought spirits to HipHop that can't be duplicated...

Ah well.
I'll have to catch the Youtube clips that are uploaded by kind souls who feel the pain of those who don't have the trainfare this time around. Do share your experience, pics and the like if you make it out. Definitely let a sistah know if you want to do a piece for Purple covering the event.

The American Just-us System Strikes Again

The 3 detectives who murdered Sean Bell with what added up to 50 bullets that easily revealed the monstrous mentalities of the renegade officers have been found innocent on all counts by the Just-us System of Amerikkka today.
Justice Cooperman delivered the verdict to a packed courtroom, where a woman who sat behind Mr. Bell's family was heard saying, “Did he just say, ‘Not guilty?’ ”

Sharpton claims the fight isn't over. Hopefully that's not just talk.

Our condolences to the Bell family.
May Sean rest in peace, and may his family find absolute justice.

These blatant corruptions of justice can no longer find a comfortable climate in our community. Let us seek legislation to imprison renegade cops for life without parole, who abuse the law by torturing and taking the lives of innocents. Period. It's time for the black community to seek legislation that ensures these monsters will think thrice before they decide to engage in crimes of race hate. No more Just-us clannery. It's over. Time to shut 'em down.

Indiefied- Jesse Boykins III

Jesse Boykins the III, is a wonder. There's genius in his rhythms, and a confident swagger that is smooth enough to make you grin, and fork over your cash for a download. I'm serious. I haven't heard anything like this before. His vibe remains R&B, but Jesse's interpretation is a blend of humor, straightforward 'wit the business' intensity, and undeniable sexuality that manages to be relevant in today's hyper-sexualized world without being profane (how many cats do you know nowadays that can still wield innuendo?), in a song structure that supports interlude like bridges rivaled by who?

Jesse is amazing. Very few cats could stay on spin in my etherbox with a lit up repeat button. He is among D'angelo's voodoo, The Essential Billie, Jimi's Electricladyland, Thelonious Monk, Incubus' Make Yourself and Morningview, Thicke's Beautiful World, Fiona Apple's Tidal and When the Pawn Hits, and other legends whose etheric majesty I swoon before.

Jesse Boykins deserves your attention.

Am I not Human?

Bloggers Stand in Remembrance of Humanity on April 27th

(PressMethod) - With the intent to ask the masses to remember humanity when they think of major competitive events such as the Olympics, set to be hosted in Beijing by a country guilty of involvement in numerous civil rights violations and outright oppression, April 27th is being observed as the day the question must be asked for Darfurians, and Tibetans to name only a few countries that have been affected by China's lack of concern for human rights, 'Am I not human?'

The Olympics have been said to represent friendship and humanity, but the oppressive realities China has taken part in seem to willfully ignore higher Olympic principles.

The 'Am I not human?'blog campaign involves bloggers from a myriad of cultures recognizing the symbolic importance the Olympics claim to represent and the direct violation towards humanity China is guilty of in its act as a supplier to Oppressive forces in the Sudan, and it's unspeakable acts towards Tibetan Monks.

The campaign's strategy is to educate, motivate and activate. A small ebook will be available for download detailing the background of the struggle in Darfur and Tibet, highlighting real actions that can and should be taken. The ebook will present the opportunity to continue action offline within our communities by anyone claiming to be interested in making a positive change.

Conscious Blogger Eddie Griffin shares, "We will no longer idly stand by and watch such blatant hypocrisy as human beings are inhumanely preyed upon."

The Blog Campaign participants will post in unity on the 27th of each month until real measurable, progressive change can be seen in Darfur and Tibet.

The Deep Green Blur Mixtape begins with a question we need to consider, continues with necessary sentiments in the songs of Afropunks, and Conscious Lyricists about the state of the world, the power of ones own dreamvision to create positive change, and touches on the problem of using relationships as a tool for escapism concluding finally with the realization that we are our own worst enemies and simply must break away from the need to be accepted by others; embracing the realization that only we can accept ourselves as in doing so the root of all conflicts and poisons is undone.

Indiefied- Justin Nozuka

Justin Nozuka's folk soul weaves an adept earthy spell with an incredibly resonant voice that inspires tingling in the heart, and the honesty and determined passion in his music has the undeniable ring of a storyteller's intent.
In a single-parent family where all four brothers play music, the Japanese Toronto import was the sixth of seven children. Influenced by Motown and HipHop in his teens, Justin has attained a fierce command of bluesy Americana, and brings to the table an earthier version of the green soul Gavin Degraw brought to bless the masses several years back. He will grab your heart and hold it with a gentle strength, because you will want to hear what he has to say over and over and over again.

Door to Door Organics

Kind soul Sha-King Allah at SoulVegFolk hipped me to the new move in our household, as our access to local farms is a bit limited currently, and the fruits on the shelves of our local grocer are pretty much unacceptable for consumption.

Our new move: Door to Door Organics.
It's the way to go for fresh organic fruits and vegetables, and they're probably less expensive than the fruits in the local corporate boxes the suits hope we will continue to flock to. Fortunately the suits are not our only choice, though they have poisoned land and business practices in hopes of making it so.

I'm seriously considering an indoor garden, but for now making wheatgrass (a complete food) and sprouts is very simple and inexpensive to achieve, while Door to Door Organics has the hookup for consumable green goodness.

The Problem With Whole Foods

While Whole Foods has become a well known name in the minds of Organic eaters after their merger with WildOats, Whole Foods has made more than one questionable decision in their supposedly health-centered business model.
We really can't help but give them the side-eye for their position as a non-union (they don't believe in Unions?) Industrial Organic company that does not engage in local distribution. Why would we want our fruits and vegetables imported from Argentina when there is plenty of green goodness in our local communities popping up from the Earth? Isn't WholeFoods supposed to be a solution to the problem corporations have made for local farmers? And how does WholeFoods' explain that their canned goods and boxed items are laden with MSG and that their dairy may or may not contain rBGH???? Aren't those unnacceptable ingredients on Whole Foods list? Do they even care about these concerns? Probably not. The corporate hand in WholeFoods' obvious Fortune500 mentality, is disturbing to say the least.

Spread the word to those well-meaning friends who think they may be eating healthier because they started shopping at Whole Foods... We have to put a stop to this nonsense, and support any fitting competitors that may arise to challenge this misleading food giant.

Natural Energy Could Be Here Sooner Than We Think

Hydrogen could become the fuel we look to to fuel our homes, cars, and generate power for industry sooner than we expect. It may seem it's being ignored by the large companies responsible for the oil issues we have experienced globally, but the large companies like Shell, BP, and Texaco are developing hydrogen and fuel cell technology divisions. The main concern there is that they're investing heavily to control the design, production and sales of the machines that produce and utilize hydrogen, meaning we'll definitely have to keep an eye on how safe the devices they have a hand in creating, actually end up being.

The upside is obvious though, a small device the size of a dishwasher will be responsible for fueling our home appliances, while producing heat and clean drinking water as biproducts. Produced from tap water hydrogen is an infinitely clean fuel that can fuel a car for 500 miles between refills, while making your vehicle able to generate 30 to 50 kilowatts of electricity, even to the extent of providing electricity for your homes.
There's no danger of running out of this precious renewable fuel, and its advantages are many. A Hydrogen economy means greater fuel efficiency, the relief of pollution from fossil fuels, the relief of pressure placed upon the Middle East's oil reserves, and the elimination from threat of greenhouse gases. Hydrogen technology will also provide relief to re-developing countries economically and otherwise. Utility companies will become obsolete under such technology, providing a major redistribution of wealth and power. Sounds like the Most High speaking to me...

In the same way the internet has made it possible for anyone at any 'level' to communicate, network and become involved in lucrative enterprise, Hydrogen economy would mean energy could not be held against anyone. Imagine the indoor gardens that could be created to be sure food supplies remained accessible. Poisoning the land would no longer be an effective way to terrorize and gain power over cultures. Such technology will level the playing field.
Despite challenges that need to be surmounted regarding removing any dangers from production, storage and transportation of hydrogen, the primary goal is to utilize solar energy to split water into oxygen and hydrogen, and if it's any indication from the chap Teddy Klein, who was able to create a generator in his garage that from what I understand, made all of this research possible, it's something any of us will be able to do, so don't believe the hype or additional 'complications' some might try to add to the technology to line their own pockets.
