note: I've highlit some of the ingredients in the directions portion.
I recently decided to use marshmallow root, aloe vera gel, and sesame seed oil as an herbal detangler and you know what? It worked! It might have helped that I gave myself a one inch trim two weeks ago but I'm sure that it would have worked just as well if I hadn't ;-)
So, this is what I did...
- I didn't measure anything so the following are approximations. You would use the detangler as you would any liquid or cream that would be used to comb through your hair with a wide tooth comb to remove knots or tangles.
I added about 5 tablespoons of marshmallow root to 2 cups of boiling water. I let it boil for a few minutes until it thickened up a bit. I stirred up the mix once or twice. Once the gel appeared I allowed it to cool. Afterwards I used a nut milk bag to strain the roots out and retain the gel.
The marshmallow root was then poured into a ceramic bowl and then 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel, and 2 teaspoons of sesame seed oil were added to the mix.
That's all.
You can always add essential oils though if you enjoy scented hair -- lavender, frankincense, and ylang ylang are some of my favorites (a few drops are all that's needed).
Out of habit, I found myself adding additional sesame seed oil to each parted section after I coated it with the mix BUT my twists weren't greasy or flaky after they air dried. they were happily twisted and ready to be put up in a bun or worn down.
Additional note: To make it even easier place your hair in big sections while washing to lessen the chances of tangles and knots.
After washing my hair, I added the mixture to each parted section, combed it through with a wide-toothed comb, and then allowed my hair to air dry in big twists.
Happy hair maintenance be unto you! :-)

now this is apparently what i was needing yesterday when toughing it out with my tangled hair as i was preparing to twist. i'll definitely have to give it a try, because nothing else i've used to detangle works the way i think it should.
thanks!

peace ultraviolet underground folks!
i tried the recipe earlier this evening following my instructions and decided that it needed more marshmallow root and water. and a bit less oil.
so, here's a modified version of it...
5 tablespoons of marshmallow root
2 cups of boiling water
2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel
2 teaspoons of sesame seed oil
add essential oils according to your hair and scent needs.
after washing my hair, i added the mixture to each parted section, combed it through with a wide-toothed comb, and then allowed my hair to air dry in big twists.
***to make it even easier place your hair in big sections while washing to lessen the chances of tangles and knots.
hope this helps even further :-)
Peace Queen *_^
I'm updating it now.
