Indeed, there is a smokescreen obscuring the fact that True HipHop is a genre with its own subgenres, like any other art form. Attacking the whole for the Gangsta rap subgenre of the original art that's been pimped by the corporate machine, is nothing more than scapegoating...as per usual.
Identifying the source of the disruption accurately is important, because conscious Hip Hop can't be lumped into the same category as the form of rap that has created confusion for the masculinity and femininity of the youth in the community.
